FC Northwest Coaching Code of Conduct

Coaches can be a major influence on the lives of young, developing athletes and their actions and deeds can have a lasting effect, both positively and negatively. FCNW expects that the conduct of its coaches be of the highest standards.
Coaches will:
  1. Take all reasonable precautions to insure the safety of each player.
  2. Be responsible for the conduct of the players, parents and spectators of the team during a practice or game session.
  3. Operate within the Laws of the Game and teach the players to do the same.
  4. Obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principles of growth and development of players.
  5. Display control, respect and professionalism to all involved. This includes opponents, coaches, officials, parents and spectators. Encourage players to do the same.
  6. Be enthusiastic and positive. They must ensure that they are generous with their praise when deserved.
  7. Maintain the high standards of personal conduct and fair play.
  8. Remember that young people participate for pleasure and winning is only part of the fun. Ensure that development is equal for all players, not just the best.
  9. Be reasonable in their demands on a player’s time, energy and enthusiasm.
  10. Show concern and caution toward sick and injured players. Follow the advice of a physician when determining whether injured players are ready to recommence training or competition.
  11. Ensure any physical contact with a player is appropriate to the situation and necessary for the player’s skill development.
  12. Ensure that the training is suitable for age, experience, ability and condition of the players.
  13. Ensure equal training of all players’.
Coaches will not:
  1. Use profanity at any time.
  2. Physically or psychologically abuse any player on his or her team or any other team, even in jest.
  3. Ever ridicule or yell at a player for making a mistake.
  4. Openly argue with a game official. If there is a need to address the referee do so calmly and patiently after the game. A letter of concern may also be addressed to the District, if needed.
  5. Profit directly from coaching an FCNW team. No coach shall charge for practices to make a profit, or otherwise engage in activity to generate income, from coaching an FCNW team.
  6. Operate any training academy for profit or non-profit outside of FCNW without prior approval of the FCNW Board of Directors.
  7. Advertise any training academy directly or indirectly to their players that is not affiliated and approved by FCNW.
  8. Participate in any unsanctioned games or encourage players to play in unsanctioned games (as per the WYSA and MSA rules on unsanctioned games).
Failure to adhere to this policy may result in suspension, termination, or other disciplinary actions as deemed necessary by FCNW.
Referee abuse will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severely.
